ARCOS Arts by Archbishop Cruz

The builder of the Lay Formation Center, Archbishop Oscar V. Cruz, is also an artist. Some of his works in the LFC building are the wooden furnitures, the crucifixes, some fixtures and now... some of the most beautiful wood-art ever seen in this part of the world are on permanent display at the LFC Lobby.

NEW SCHEDULE OF SEMINARS for LAY MINISTERS

ONLY FOUR (4) SEMINARS are scheduled for the Lay Ministes (Lectors and Lay Eucharistic Ministers) this September, October and November. The schedule was revised after consultation was held with some Lay Ministers, and the availability of LFC and the speakers.

September 15 and 22 (2 Saturdays, 8AM to 4PM)
October 6 and 13 (2 Saturdays, 8AM to 4PM)
November 3 and 10 (2 Saturdays, 8AM to 4PM)
November 17 and 24 (2 Saturdays, 8AM to 4PM)

The Seminars in November will cater to the Lay Ministers who cannot understand the Pangasinan language.

All the other dates issued in the last newsletter have been CANCELLED. Here is a list of the parishes who came for the updating seminars (see next column).

The UPDATING Seminar this year was developed according to the requests of several parish priests who wanted the seminars at LFC to be more practical or relevant to their ministry. There are four (4) long conferences on the scheduled two (2) Saturdays.

The first Saturday of the Seminar has conferences on LITURGY and SCRIPTURES. On the Liturgy, the following are covered: (a) the meaning of liturgy; (b) the Liturgical Year - Seasons and Colors; (c) the Eucharist; and (d) the Parts of the Holy Mass. On the Scriptures, the twenty-one (21) Letters of the New Testament are covered.

The second Saturday of the Seminar has conferences on the following: DOCTRINE and SPIRITUALITY. On Doctrine, LFC invites the Seminary Fathers to give the Lecture. The twelve articles of faith are usually covered. On Spirituality, the meaning of Lay Spirituality and the Spirituality of Lay Ministry - adequate preparation and practical suggestions- are explained.

RECOLLECTION for CHOIR MEMBERS

If you think, your choir needs a Recollection Seminar for the formation of the members, contact the Lay Formation Center (515-8306 or 523 3941).

A Recollection Seminar is being developed this December for them, with conferences on the Liturgy, the Eucharist and their Spirituality.

The Recollection-Seminar shall be one day only, from 8AM to 5 PM at LFC. Available dates are DECEMBER 1, 8, 15 and 22 only. First come, first served!

QUIZ FOR LAY MINISTERS

This year, the UPDATING Seminars end with a quiz designed to assess the participants attention and to "entertain." The quiz is now 30 items, answerable in 20 minutes, multiple choice. Fun starts when the Lay Ministers know that the passing score is 1. So far, all the Lay Ministers who took the exams passed!

The four batches that took the exams were topped by the following:
Cristy Agustin of St. John the Evangelist Parish, 29 points
Zeta Perez of St. Hyacinth Parish, 26 points
Divinia de Leon of Epiphany of the Lord Parish, 25 points
Nenita Cuison of St. John the Evangelist Parish, 23 points (out of 25)

Those who topped were given a full refund of their registration for the Updating-Seminar.

Renovation of Villa San Rafael

The Villa San Rafael was built in the 1980s, and was home to the Old Orientation Seminary of the Archdiocese and then of the Retired Clergy. It will soon be renovated under the Lay Formation Center.

Updating-Formation of ALD Lay Ministers

ARCHBISHOP OSCAR V. CRUZ in the Circular Letter Number 18 Series 2007 encouraged all Lay Ministers (Lay Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors) thru their Parish Priests and School Directors "to faithfully presence" updating-formation seminars at the Lay Formation Center.

The Letter reaffirms the mandate given to the Lay Formation Center to schedule seminars and programs for the continuing formation of the Lay Ministers in the Archdiocese.

The Archbishop also mentioned the suggestions of the consultation made by Fr. Mario DC Sanchez, the current LFC Director, with the representatives of the different parishes last June 9, 2007.

As recommended by the representatives, annual formation seminar will have a common module which will be attended by Vicariate from June to November.

The formation seminar is the other requirement for Lay Ministers to attend aside from their annual recollection which is held in Lent.

ARCDIOCESAN FORMATION OF THE LAITY

Lay Formation Center is truly the Center of Lay Formation in the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan. Five formation programs have been held at LFC in the last few months.

In October 2006, the Biblical Apostolate held its Bible Quiz at LFC for the different families of the Archdiocese. The Commission and Auxiliary Bishop Rene Mayugba facilitated the program.

In December 2007, a Weekend Youth Seminar was held at LFC with at least 7 delegates from each of the 27 parishes of the Archdiocese. The Archbishop, Fr. Manuel Bravo and Ms. Janice Hebrom facilitated the formation.

In February 2007, Catechists from all over the Archdiocese were given Formation at the Center. The Archbishop, Fr. Antonio Quintans and the Vicariate Coordinators spearheaded the formation module.

This March, two programs will be upcoming: the Seminar-Workshop for the Family Life Apostolate units of the different parishes in the Archdiocese, under Fr. Felipe Mattias and the Commission.

The Annual Recollection of all Lay Ministers in the Archdiocese will also be held at LFC.
