THE MINOR SEMINARIANS AT LFC

Cosme was a difficult experience for us in the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan. We thought, at first, that LFC had it bad. The Pavillion roof was completely destroyed, the gutters at the southern section of the building all went down, rainwater got inside the second floor corridors, bedrooms and toilets, the chapel was even flooded four inches. (Later, 0ur expenses were unimaginable and our savings had been considerably depleted because of the need to repair them all.)

But not until we saw other churches, institutions, not to mention the homes of our people, much more, of the less fortunate brothers and sisters of ours.

The Minor Seminary in Binmaley was badly hit. The entire roof of the north building (above the second year dormitory) flew entirely to the ground. The chapel landing was severely damaged and other sections affected enormously.

LFC was offered as a temporary home to the seminarians while repairs went underway. Fr. Jerry Cera, Rector and the entire staff knew of the adjustments and troubles - but it was the only solution so that the repairs could be pursued. Fr. Leo Macaraeg of the St. John Cathedral School spearheaded the gigantic responsibility of retrofitting the seminary. It had cost millions in pesos.

After 3 months, the minor seminarians are all excited to see their "new" home. They are finally going home next week. They moved out of LFC on 28 August 2008.

LFC is never the same again. The experience of having the minor seminary community was formative even to our staff. LFC somehow has got in humbly in the history of the most venerable institution in our province - the Mary Help of Christians Minor Seminary! Mabuhay!

A Chalice for LFC

A new chalice was given to Fr. Mario DC Sanchez when he presided over the Eucharist on August 3 for a group of Filipinos who had their recollection at the Convent of the Sister Disciples of the Divine Master (PDDM) in San Jose, California.

Mrs. Sandra Mirasol of Los Altos, CA donated this beautiful chalice in memory of her husband Daniel. Fr. Mario promised her that he would use the chalice for his masses at LFC.

Benefactors of LFC

In August 2005, before LFC was formally inaugurated, Fr. Mario on his trip to USA seeked financial assistance for LFC (with the permission of the Archbishop). There were very generous people who contributed to the beginnings of LFC's operation. Some of the trees at the LFC Garden were dedicated in their honor.
This August 2008, on Fr. Mario's trip to the USA, we have learned that some of LFC's very generous benefactors have passed away, and we are offering our prayers for them:
+Frieda Kapoor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, San Jose, CA
+Alice Dumadaug of Our Lady of Gudalupe Parish, San Jose, CA
+Edna Claudio of Richmond, BC, Canada
+Francisco R. Sanchez - Fr. Mario's father
God rest their souls. Amen.

LFC will be 3 on September 28!

The Lay Formation Center will be 3 years old on the feast of San Lorenzo Ruiz - September 28 - and we are preparing for a simple celebration as thanksgiving. We are inviting all our patrons, benefactors and friends to join us for a 10 o'clock Eucharist at the LFC chapel.

At this time, LFC is being occupied by the Mary Help of Christians Minor Seminary. The minor seminary community will officially go back to their newly retrofitted or repaired seminary buildings on the 29th of August.

On the 30th and 31st of August the Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals has booked with us for their spiritual gathering.

The Recollections of many schools have all been moved to September. We recommend that all the other groups book earlier as October usually becomes the busiest time at LFC.
